About Pincode Finder

Your trusted tool for finding Indian Postal Index Numbers

What is a PIN Code?

PIN (Postal Index Number) is a 6-digit code used by India Post to identify each post office in India. The PIN code system was officially introduced on August 15, 1972, by Shriram Bhikaji Velankar, an additional secretary in the Union Ministry of Communications.

How PIN Codes Work

Each digit in the 6-digit PIN code has a specific meaning:

  • 1st digit: Represents the postal zone (India has 9 zones)
  • 2nd digit: Represents the sub-zone within the postal zone
  • 3rd digit: Represents the sorting district
  • Last 3 digits: Represent the specific post office

Why We Support Mandal & Village Selection

In India, administrative units vary between states. In southern states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, sub-districts are called Mandals. In northern, western, and eastern states, they are typically known as Tehsils, Taluks, or Sub-divisions.

We provide a seamless switch between Mandal/Tehsil and Village/Post Office levels so users in both rural panchayats and urban municipalities can find their exact PIN code without confusion.

Data Source & Accuracy

Our pincode data is sourced from the official India Post (Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India) directory. We regularly update our database to reflect changes in post office locations, new pincodes, and administrative boundary updates.

Note: Administrative boundaries (districts, mandals) may change over time due to government reorganization. We recommend verifying with your local post office for the most current information, especially for recently reorganized districts.
